Shirley Ogren

Shirley C. Ogren Shirley Christine (Backhaus) Ogren was born on September 28, 1930 to Henry and Emma (Kettering) Backhaus in Pollack, South Dakota. She attended country school through the eighth grade. In 1944, the family moved to Miltona. Shirley was confirmed at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Miltona and worked at the grocery store where she met Donald. On November 3, 1950 Shirley was united in marriage to Donald Ogren at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Miltona. To this union the couple was blessed with 3 children. The couple made their home in Miltona for a few years and then moved to Henning where Shirley was a homemaker. In 1954, they moved to Alexandria were Shirley worked for Echo Press, Quality Printing, and Arrowwood in the cleaning department were she retired in 1993. Shirley was a member of St. Luke?s Lutheran Church in which she was very involved with the woman?s groups and circles. She enjoyed archery, bowling, baking and loved her Minnesota Twins. She liked to take family camping trips in the summer and enjoyed spending time with her grandkids playing at Brophy Park. Shirley was a wonderful mother and grandmother. Shirley died on Monday, May 3, 2010 at Bethany Home in Alexandria at the age of 79. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Donald of Alexandria; daughter, Nancy (Tom) Keene of Alexandria; son, Randy (Sherry) Ogren of New Ulm; grandchildren, Kristopher Anderson, Amanda Anderson, Danielle Ogren and Tanner Ogren; step-granddaughters, Alissa (Josh) Theis, Bethany Keene, and Lindsay Keene; brothers, Arnold (Vi) Backhaus of Alexandria and Delmer (Nancy) Backhaus of Becker; sisters, Esther Huising and Phyllis Eckert both of Minneapolis; and many nieces and nephews. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Emma; son, Joel; and brothers Clarence and Walter. A funeral service was held on Monday, May 10, 2010 at St. Luke?s Lutheran Church in Garfield, MN with Reverend David Gran officiating. Music was provided by organist, Audrey Aga and soloist, Bruce Aga. Interment was in St. Luke?s Lutheran Cemetery in Garfield. Casket bearers were Kristopher Anderson, Tom Keene, Christopher Duffy, Lee Backhaus, Jim Anderson, and Tanner Ogren. Honorary casket bearers were Amanda Anderson, Danielle Ogren, Alissa Theis, Bethany Keene, and Lindsay Keene. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home of Alexandria.
