Sidney Hills

March 6, 1933 — February 6, 2019

Sidney Junior Hills was born March 6, 1933 in Barry, MN, the son of Sidney Eagle and Mabel (Merfeld) Hills. He was raised and attended school in west central Minnesota.

In 1953, Sidney joined the United States Army. He served in Oklahoma and later, in Germany. Following his service to his country, he returned to Minnesota to live in Alexandria. Sidney was married to Ivalene Hvezda. The couple was blessed with three children, Tom, Julie and Jodi.

Sidney worked at Alexandria Light & Power for twenty-eight years. Sidney was united in marriage to Nancy Dixon in Nisswa, MN. The couple made their home in Sauk Centre, MN where they have lived for twenty-four years.

In his retirement days, Sidney was Mr. Fixit. Whether it was old tractors, lawn mowers, repairable cars, electrical appliances or the projects that his neighbors brought to him, he applied the gift of an awesome ability to fix things. Lending his time to people and organizations to help with repairs was never a problem for Sidney.

Volunteering was important to Sidney. He served for many years on the Board of Commissioners for Sauk Centre Public Utilities. He also gave his time to Meals on Wheels. Sidney also volunteered with his church; he helped with Bible School, Boys Brigade and, of course, repairs. Sidney attended Bible Studies and was attending his current church, Harvest Community Church in Sauk Centre. Faith was important to Sidney, He had calling cards with the following quote printed on them, “I don’t ask for much pay – I’m serving the Lord in this special way.”

On Wednesday, February 6, 2019, Sidney died at the age of eighty-five years. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Daniel “Dick”, Merle and David Hills; one, sister, Betty Claassen; and two sisters-in-law, Donna Hills and Ardell Hills. Sidney is survived by his wife, Nancy Hills of Sauk Centre; son, Tom Hills and wife Renae, of Alexandria; daughters, Julie Trushenski and husband, Larry, of Burfordville, MO and Jodi Hills and husband, Dominique Orsolini, of Aix-en-Provence, France; three grandchildren, Josh Hills and wife, Betsy, of Alexandria, Rachel Buse and husband, Ryan, of Alexandria and Dr. Jesse Trushenski and partner, Jim Bowker, of Bozeman, MT; five great grandchildren, Quinn, Charly and Layne Hills, and Brody and Micah Buse, all of Alexandria; one sister, Phyliss Kirwin and husband, Ken, of New Brighton, MN; one brother, Lawrence Hills and wife, Irene, of Albertville, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
