Stanley Cowan

OBITUARY Stanley Miller Cowan Sr. was born on August 5, 1932 in Minneapolis, MN the son of Raymond and Gladys (Ross) Cowan. He graduated from Rockford High School and then enlisted in to the United States 1st Marine Infantry Division during the Korean War. Stan met the love of his life in Ruth Peterson, when he returned to Minneapolis after the war. Together they were united in marriage on April 25, 1953 in Minneapolis, MN. To this union nine children were born Linda, LuAnn, Raymond, Rick, Corrine, Carla, Laura, Stanley Jr., and Andrea. Stan and his family lived in South Minneapolis, MN and in Brooklyn Park. Stan went to Minneapolis Technical School for two years to learn cement finishing and then worked for Hiawatha Cement for 15 years. He then worked with cement restoration and also with Target Company as project manager for building stores all over the country. He was a member of the Brick Layer Local Union #1 for 30 years. All of Stan?s sons followed their father?s trade and continued to work in the concrete business. Stan was a hardworking, dependable, and honest man. He enjoyed fishing and spending time looking out at the lake on Lake Irene. He also enjoyed watching the Vikings and Twins. He loved and provided well for his family throughout the years and will be missed dearly by those who knew and loved him. Stanley M. Cowan Sr. died on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at the Douglas County Hospital at the age of 79. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Ruth Cowan of Miltona, MN; sons Raymond (Monica) Cowan of Crystal, MN; Rick Cowan of Miltona, MN; Stanley Jr. (Becki) Cowan of Brooklyn Park, MN; daughters LuAnn (Mike) Marotte of Isanti, MN; Corrine (Casey) Harper of Brooklyn Park, MN; Carla (Steve) Meinert of Miltona, MN; Laura Hanson and Joel Thompson of Atwater, MN; and Andrea Cowan of Miltona, MN; very special friend of the family Jackie Paul of Minneapolis, MN; 15 grandchildren, 7 Great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren brother Raymond (Barbara) Cowan of Atlanta, GA; sisters Corky Salonek of Hill City, MN; Vivenne (Patrick) Patton of North Minneapolis, MN; and Kathleen Anderson of St. Louis Park, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Linda, and Great Grandson Charles. A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Miltona, MN at 1PM. A Private family interment was in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls, MN on Monday, July 30, 2012 at 11AM.
