Stanley Johnson

Stanley Laverne Johnson was born in Polk County, Oslo, MN on July 13, 1923. He resided with his parents Clara (Johnson) and Gullick Kollin attending school in Alvarado, MN. He was active in sports while in High School and worked at Sands Locker Plant before enlisting in the Marine Corp in 1943. Upon completion of his basic training in San Diego and Los Angeles and field training in Hawaii, he served with the 5th Marine Division in Iwo Jima and Japan until 1946. On May 11, 1946 Stanley was united in marriage to Harriet Dalquist at Svea (Calvary) Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Dr. O. O. Gustafson officiating. To this union one son, Dana was born. He was employed at Dalquist Electric for several years and Kain Plumbing, Heating, and Electric and later he and Marvin Nelson formed the Alexandria Electric Corp. Marvin passed away in 1985 and Stanley continued the company until his retirement in 1993. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and served on the church council, church activities, scouting, and wherever he was needed. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the morning Lions Club. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, but most of all being with his granddaughters, family and friends. Stanley died on July 22, 2010 at Bethany Home in Alexandria at the age of 87. He is survived by his wife, Harriet of Alexandria; son, Dana (Susan) and four granddaughters all of Maple Grove; brother, Dennis (Elaine) Kollin of Alvarodo; sisters, Marlene Knutson and Bonnie (Floyd) Johnson of Alvarado, MN; sister-in-law, Shirley Kollin; and many nieces and nephews. Stanley is preceded in death by his parents, Gullick and Clara; two brothers, Gaylor and Gladden Kollin; and sister-in-law, Eileen Kollin. A memorial service was held on Monday, July 26, 2010 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Reverend Mark Astrup and Reverend Tom Junkert officiating. Music was provided by Kim Byrne and organist, Becky Worley. Military Honors were provided by the Alexandria American Legion Post 87, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 936 and the MN National Guard Honors. Inurnment was held in Sunset Memorial (Kinkead) Cemetery. Honorary urn bearers were Stanley?s granddaughters, Alex, Taylor, Bejay and Lake Johnson. Arrangements are with Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
