Stephan Peter Rutten was born on February 15, 1963, in Alexandria, Minnesota the son of Peter and Patricia (Neussendorfer) Rutten. He grew up in Osakis and graduated from Osakis High School in 1981. In 1983, Stephan started his career at Douglas Machine where he made many friends who enjoyed his sense of humor and jokes.
On July 21, 1984, Stephan was united in marriage to Karla Dempewolf, to this union three children were born: Matthew, Samantha, Nicole. His family was his world – his grandson, Teddy was the light of his life – he loved spending time with them whether it was on the pontoon, playing bags, giving Teddy a ride on his lawnmower or motorcycle. Time with family was a treasure. He was considered the “funcle” by every single one of his nieces and nephews.
He also enjoyed spending time in his flower garden, fishing, making creations out of horseshoes and time on his motorcycle with his wife.
Stephan will be remembered for his positive personality, sense of humor and he had an aura about him, he knew how to talk to just about anybody. He was loved by everyone he met.
Stephan died on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at his home. He is survived by his wife, Karla; children: Matthew Rutten, Samantha (Ryan) Prophet, Nicole Rutten; grandson, Theodore Prophet; mother in law, Eyvonne Dempewolf; brothers & sisters: Linda (Ron) Gadacz, Christy (Dennis) Johnson, Jerry (Marie) Rutten, Vicki (Greg) Brede, Tony (Lisa) Rutten, John Rutten & fiance', Laura Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2024, 5:00 – 8:00 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Friday, December 6, 2024, 10:00 – 11:00 AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osakis with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery Osakis. Memorials are preferred to the American Heart Association.
