Steven Anderson

Steven James Anderson was born September 1, 1959 in Melrose, MN, the son of James and Angie (Van Heel) Anderson. He was raised in the Long Prairie and Grey Eagle area. Steven attended school in Long Prairie where he graduated from high school.

Steven continued his education at Alexandria Technical College where he earned a degree in diesel mechanics. He began working at Alexandria Diesel Mechanics and later worked for ITW assembling machinery. Steven has worked for many years at Powers Machining and Thawzall.

On December 15, 1995 Steven was united in marriage to Susan (Peterson) Gylsen.  The couple made their home on a farm in Moe Township west of Alexandria, MN. Throughout Steven’s work career he also spent time working the farm and raising beef cattle. He did this as both, a business and a hobby; he loved farming and working with the animals. Steven just loved being outdoors. He spent time with Sue traveling the American west on their Harley-Davidson motorcycles. They made several trips to the rally in Sturgis, SD. Steven also enjoyed hunting for deer and coyotes. Whenever he had the time he loved going fishing in the summer and winter. Most important to Steven were his grandchildren.  He always enjoyed time spent with them.

On Sunday, October 29, 2017 Steven died in a farming accident. He is preceded in death by his parents and one step-son, Robert Gylsen. Steven is survived by his wife, Susan Anderson of Moe Township; step-son, Jason Gylsen of St. Cloud; grandchildren, Darrian Peterson, Robb Gylsen, Jayden Gylsen and Sage Lorenzen; brother, Allan Anderson of Wisconsin; and sisters, Kathy Steinbach and husband, David, of New Rockford, ND and Nancy Klingberg and husband, Gene, of Hoffman, MN.

A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 PM Monday, November 6, 2017 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, MN. There will be a prayer service beginning at 7:30 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.
