Steven O. Schjei

Steven Orris Schjei, son of Orris and Judy (Klimek) Schjei, was born on May 4, 1962, in Alexandria, MN.  Steve grew up in Alexandria and graduated in 1980 from Jefferson High School.  He attended Alexandria Technical College studying Machine Tool Technology, graduating in 1982.  Steve worked at ITW Heartland prior to starting a business, Caliber Manufacturing, with friends, Troy Rediehs, and Darrin Thesing, in Carlos, MN.  Together they grew their business, specializing in machine fitting for all types of hydraulic mechanisms.  Steve was an honest, kind and hard-working man, who was well respected by his employees, business partners, community, family and friends. 

Some of Steve’s many hobbies included hunting, fishing, golfing, playing cribbage, watching Alexandria hockey and Viking football.  He also enjoyed time spent at Lake of the Woods where he was able to relax, enjoy the outdoors, and hang out with family and friends.  Spending time with Bonnie’s grandchildren was important to Steve, as he patiently taught them to hunt, fish, farm, play cribbage, make lures, and other skills.  Steve was a blessing to all who knew and loved him and will forever remain in our hearts.

Steven O. Schjei, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by love, on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at the age of 61 after a courageous battle with bladder cancer.  He is survived by his loving fiancé, Bonnie Turner of Nelson; parents, Orris and Judy Schjei of Alexandria; sister, Peggy (Bill) Blenkush of Becker; brother, Tim Schjei of Princeton;  nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Steve was preceded in death by his sister, Anne Edenloff; sister-in-law, Barb Schjei; and great niece, Olivia Bogie.

A Visitation will be held on Monday, June 26, 2023, from 5-7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

A Celebration of Steven’s Life will take place on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at 11 AM at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Alexandria.
