Gaylene Susan Grothe, daughter of Orville and Violet Klasse, was born on March 28, 1943. Susan attended school and graduated in Slayton, Minnesota and went off to Augustana Lutheran College for one year. During Susan's junior year, she met her husband Gary Grothe. They United in Marriage on November 10, 1962. The couple resided in Fulda, MN and were blessed with two wonderful children, Scott and Kimberly. For the next 30 plus years, Susan and Gary ran their family businesses, Grothe Garbage Service, Grothe Janitorial Service and Grothe Pro Steam. In 2000, they retired and moved to their forever home in Alexandria, MN on Lake Ida.
Susan’s hobbies included fishing, bowling, playing pool, planting flowers, reading, crocheting, listening to music, and anything that would challenge her. She enjoyed watching sports, especially golf and the Twins. She loved spending time on the lake and soaking up the sun. Susan loved many things in life, but most importantly she loved spending time with her family and loved ones. She was blessed with 3 granddaughters, Tiffany, Kassody, and Harly. Susan was the ultimate Mother/Grandmother. She always put everyone before herself, gave the best advice, was always a listening ear, and loved having a good time with a glass of wine!
Aside from living in Minnesota, Susan enjoyed taking winter trips to her second home in Weslaco, Texas with her husband Gary. Many wonderful memories were made with new friends from around the country. Susan also enjoyed occasional trips to Las Vegas with her family and spent most of her time playing her favorite game, Keno. It didn't matter if she was winning or losing, her families’ enjoyment was always her top priority.
Susan passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Saturday, June 22, 2019, at the age of 76. She is survived by her husband Gary of 57 years; her children, Scott (Sandy), and Kimberly (Dave Titus); sister, Leila Klasse (Julie); and granddaughters, Tiffany (Luke Sandwick), Kassody (Tyler Eddy), and Harly (Damian Henry). Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Violet Klasse; and her sister, Roberta.
