Obituary Susan Kay Radel Schmidt was born on August 14, 1963 at the United States Air Force Base in Bangor, Maine. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith in September of 1963. Her childhood was spent in Maine, Massachusetts, and Texas as her father served in the U.S. Air Force. Susan and her family moved to Mankato, MN where she graduated from Mankato West in 1981. She was married in 1983 and was blessed with three sons, Matthew, Ryan, and Joshua. Susan and her family lived in Mankato and St. Clair, MN for several years where she worked as a graphic artist at Precision Press for 14 years. In 1999 she moved her family to Alexandria and purchased the Shady Lawn Resort, which she ran until 2003. She also worked at District #206 in special education and as an autism personal care assistant. Susan returned to school at the Alexandria Technical College in the nursing program. She became a nursing assistant in 2003 and did her clinical work at Douglas County Hospital and several nursing homes. Susan received her LPN license in 2005 and was employed at the Douglas County Hospital until she was diagnosed with caner in March of this year. Sue was a lady of many talents, doing crafts, needlework, and decorating her home. Her devotion in life was her three sons, Matthew, Ryan, and Josh and her two dogs ?Her Girls? Penny and Allie. She loved her job at DCH where she was loved by co-workers, and patients. Sue was a kind and loving women who took care of others first. She was a wonderful mother and daughter who will be truly missed by all who knew her. Susan K. Schmidt died on Friday, October 16, 2009 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 46, with her family at her bedside. She is survived by her sons Matthew, Ryan, and Joshua all of Alexandria; parents Vernon and Audrey Radel of North Mankato, MN; brothers Dwight and Douglas both of North Mankato; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at 11AM at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria, MN. Visitation will be held from 4-7PM on Monday at the Anderson Funeral Home of Alexandria and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will at Woodlawn Cemetery in Mankato, MN at a later date. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home of Alexandria, MN.
