Thomas J. DeBettignies age 89 of Brandon, MN died peacefully on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the Douglas County Hospital. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at 12:00 noon at Grace Lutheran Church in Brandon, MN. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Thomas Jerome DeBettignies was born on January 6, 1926 at his family’s farm near Porter, Minnesota. Tom was baptized at First English Lutheran Church in Canby and confirmed at Porter Lutheran Church. While in school, Tom was an excellent baseball and football player, and graduated from Canby High School in 1944. Tom joined the Army in 1951, serving his country during the Korean War. On a blind date, where they went bowling, Tom met Marilyn Kemp. They were united in marriage on December 31, 1960. When he was not working Tom loved to spend time with his family, hunting, fishing, chopping wood and bowling. He was a passionate gardener and loved feeding his birds.
Tom absolutely adored all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Tom died and went to be with the Lord at the age of 89, on Saturday March 28, 2015. He is preceded in death by his parents; nine brothers and sisters and eight of their spouses.
Tom is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Marilyn; Daughters, Stephanie (Rich) Bullick, Mary Miller (Tim) and Chris Bullick; five grandchildren, Melissa (Jason) Kocina, Bill (Niki) Miller, Sasha Berger, Andy Berger and Cassie Berger; Great grandchildren, Jayden, Piper, Reagan, Brecken, Vienna Dash and Sloan; sister in law, Maryls DeBettignies; many nephews and nieces.
A funeral service was held on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at Grace Lutheran Church in Brandon, Minnesota. Inurnment was in Hudson Cemetery.
