Thomas Gobel

Thomas W. Gobel, age 83, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, in Alexandria, MN, after a short battle with cancer.  Tom thoroughly loved spending time with his sons and their families, his Friday night out with the guys, happy hour with neighbors and Saturday burgers.  He loved telling stories to family and friends of his antics and some funny adventures.  Everyone who knew him knew that beyond his stoic exterior, he was a soft hearted, generous, and happy man.  In his last weeks, he let it be known that he wanted the end of life be on his own terms, he had no regrets, and felt so grateful and lucky to have had a wonderful, happy life.  Tom's faith was important to him and he was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alexandria.

Tom was preceded in death by his wife Ginny and brothers Dean and Paul.  He is survived by sons, Terry Gobel (Beth), Jim Gobel (Kris), sister, Penny Burns, granddaughters, Sarah (Eric), Becky, and Cassandra, two great grandsons, Logan and Jace, nephews, nieces, and many friends.

Tom grew up in Southeast Minneapolis and then lived many years with his wife, Ginny and two sons in Robbinsdale, Minnesota.  He was a successful salesman at Liberty Carton Company until his retirement.  Tom and Ginny then moved to their summer home in Alexandria where they enjoyed many special times with family and friends. Many summer days were spent on the golf course, tennis court and fishing.  Winters were spent in Florida where they enjoyed the same activities with new friends and visitors from Minnesota.

Visitation Friday, May 18, 2018, Anderson Funeral Home, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 19, 2018, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Alexandria, MN, with a visitation one hour prior to the service.
