Thomas was born on July 18, 1964 in Quantico, Virginia. When Tom was a young boy the family moved to Minneapolis. He attended Apple Valley High School where he was on the wrestling team. Tom graduated from Apple Valley High School and furthered his education at Minneapolis Technical Institute. Tom was united in marriage to Joan Swanson in Superior, Wisconsin. After their marriage the couple lived in Minneapolis and later moved to Alexandria to raise their family. While living in Alexandria Tom worked as a draftsman for Widseth, Smith, Nolting Architecture Firm. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially coaching his sons in their different sporting events and taking motorcycling trips with Joan. Tom will always be remembered as the rock of the family, a very supportive man who had strong family values. He was also artistic, enjoyed photography and taking trips to warm climates ? especially Jamaica. Thomas died on Friday, June 26, 2009. He is survived by wife, Joan; sons: Zach, Luke, John all of Alexandria; mother, Joanne & (Wayne) Lewis of Nevis, MN; father, George of Minneapolis, MN; sister, Desiree Turner of Hastings, MN; brothers: Christopher Turner of San Francisco, CA, Ryan Lewis of Minneapolis, MN; and numerous other relatives. Celebration of Life Service was held on Thursday, July 9, 2009, 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Alexandria with Father Steve Binsfeld officiating. Pallbearers were John Grittner, Chris Grittner, Tim Grittner, Jim Swanson, John Swanson, Chad Grametz.
