Timothy James Kato

Timothy James Kato was born on October 8, 1951, to James and Bernadine (Mullin) Kato in Minneapolis, MN. He graduated high school from the Twin Cities area and began working several odd jobs until starting in finance at Lupient Chevorlet.

Tim was blessed with three children, Beth, Bonnie, and Jacob. Moving to Alexandria, he worked at Automaxx for 12 years, then Alex Auto and Marine and later, Lakes Area Automotive, all in the finance department. After retirement, Tim worked part-time at Sister’s Liquor in Carlos. Around 8 years ago, Tim met the love of his life, Angie Rustand at the Eagles. They enjoyed fishing, taking vacations together to anywhere warm, and spending time on their lake home on Lake Andrew while they lived there.

Tim loved fishing, especially on Lake of the Woods and on any of the lakes around the Alexandria area. Spending time outdoors to hunt deer, pheasant, and duck was another way he enjoyed his spare time along with spending time with his dogs, whom he loved like children. Over the years, Tim volunteered at the Eagles and made sure to support other local restaurants, especially the Depot and Angelina’s. Tim will be remembered as a “glass half full” kind of guy,always sharing thoughtful compliments, being kind, supportive, appreciative, having a good sense of humor, and especially for loving everyone around him.

Timothy James Kato passed away on Friday, November 18, 2022, at Alomere Health at the age of 71. He is survived by his daughters, Bonnie (Don) Kato and Beth (Jimmy) Kato; fiancé, Angie Rustand and her children, Katelyn Wold-Clough and Nolan Rustand; cousins, Scott Mullin, Gary Mullin and Sandy Mullin; and dog, Gus. Tim is preceded in death by his son, Jacob Kato; and dog, Raven.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at Calvary Lutheran Church with visitation one hour prior to the service.
