Timothy Earl Malmgren passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2023, surrounded by loving family at the age of 73 years. He was under the care of Knute Nelson Hospice since March, 2022.

Timothy was born March, 18, 1950, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was chosen by his parents Rueben and Viola Malmgren of Parkers Prairie. Tim was baptized on May 7, 1950, and confirmed on September 26, 1965, at First Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie.

Tim graduated with the high school class of 1968. He served with the United States Army Military Police from October 16, 1969, through April 19, 1972, and was honorably discharged. Tim received the National Defense Service Award and Sharp Shooter of the M-16, M-45 and M-14.

Tim married Joyce Wangerin on December 20, 1975, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Deer Creek, Minnesota. They were blessed with two sons, Sjon and Steven.

Tim worked for Vincent Brass and Aluminum in the Twin Cities. He later came back to Parkers Prairie and farmed with his dad.  After selling the farm, Tim worked for Penrose Transport, John Moeller and Duane Midtling of Parkers Prairie, PCI and PCI Roads of St. Michael, Minnesota.

Tim loved to cook, hunt and fish, which he taught his boys. When Tim was laid off from road construction in the winter, he would have supper ready when Joyce got home from work. He traded a lot of recipes with friends and catered food for friend’s weddings, anniversaries and funerals, he chaired the Thanksgiving dinners at Immanuel Lutheran Church for many years.

Tim was a member of American Legion Post 219 of Parkers Prairie, the Coyote Hunters Association, American Rifleman Association, and American Turkey Federation (where he was a member of the Leaf Valley Toms and was known for his famous deviled eggs).

Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Rueben and Viola; sisters, Patty and Julie; grandparents, Earl and Helen Penrose; Alfred and Eugenia Malmgren; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lawrence and June Wangerin; nephew, Matthew Ranstedt; great-nephew, Caleb Rokes and nephew-in-law, Bob Hocking; brothers-in-law, James Reineke, Milo Wark and Randy Zimmerman.

Tim is survived by his wife, Joyce of 47 years, sons, Sjon (Lynette) and Steven (Amanda); grandchildren, Zander, Nevaeh, Brooklyn, Carter and Starr.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 11, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Parkers Prairie with full military honors. Visitation, Thursday, August 10 from 5 – 7 p.m. at the church and one hour prior to services.  Tim will be buried at a later date at Oakridge Cemetery in Almora, Minnesota.
