Trevor Jay Gillespie was born in Alexandria, Minnesota on August 19, 1973 to Darrell and Joyce (Augustson) Gillespie. He was baptized at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Brandon, MN and confirmed at St. Olaf's Catholic Church in Elbow Lake, MN.
Trevor's involvement in the local FFA chapter earned him top honors at the state and national levels in Ag Economics and Farm Management divisions. He graduated with honors from West Central High School in Elbow Lake, MN in 1992. Trevor attended North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, ND where he received an Ag Business Degree. After completing college he was employed at the family farm equipment dealerships, performing various roles in parts, service and precision farming systems (GPS). He spent countless hours well into the night helping area farmers. Trevor had the opportunity to spend a year abroad teaching modern farming practices in the Ukraine. Trevor resumed his lifelong dream of farming with his father and his close friend and brother, Troy.
Trevor was united in marriage to Laura Nugent Hart on June 28, 2014 in Minneapolis. The couple made their home in Fergus Falls, MN with their beloved dog, Emily. Trevor enjoyed deer and pheasant hunting, alpine skiing, ice fishing, snowmobiling, and reading. Most of all he loved spending time with his friends and family. He will be remembered for his hard work ethic, never shirking a task, kind spirit and big heart. In keeping with Trevor's loving and generous spirit, it was his decision to donate life so that others may live.
Trevor died on Friday, August 5, 2016 due to a tragic farm accident in Fergus Falls, MN at the age of 42. He is survived by his wife, Laura Gillespie of Fergus Falls, MN; mother, Joyce Gillespie and Djelloul Kassous of Elbow Lake, MN; father, Darrell (Gwen) Gillespie of Alexandria, MN; brother, Troy (Tanya) Gillespie of Elbow Lake, MN; nieces, Lauren and Sydney; grandmother, Joyce Fern Gillespie of Ashby, MN; and many aunts, uncles and cousins; mother and father-in-law; John E. and Cindy Hart of Chanhassen, MN; brothers-in-law, John D. Hart and Colin Hart of Everett, WA; and sister-in-law, Elinor (Jozef Murar) Murarova of Manhattan, NY. Trevor is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Wendell and Margaret Augustson; aunt, Wendy Augustson; cousins, Tanner Stokes and Jolene Bartells.
A Funeral Service will be held 10:30 AM on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at St. Olaf Catholic Church in Elbow Lake. Visitation will be held from 4:30–7:30 PM with Parish Prayers at 7:30 PM on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at St. Olaf Catholic Church in Elbow Lake and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials are preferred to either Ottertail or Grant County Food Shelf or the Ottertail or Grant County Humane Society.
