Verna Mae Kluver was born July 21, 1930 in Kandiyohi County, MN, the daughter of Wessel and Ella (Schipnewski) Kluver. She grew up with her large family near Spicer and Raymond and later moved to Alexandria .where she attended Zion Lutheran School. Following her schooling Verna moved to Willmar, MN where she attended beauty school and became a beautician. In March 1950 Verna was united in marriage to William Gordhamer. The couple made their home in Minneapolis and were blessed with one child, Kathie. Verna moved to West Frankfurt, IL for about three years. She returned to Minneapolis where she established a beauty salon at 26th and Hennepin. This shop was later moved to 35th and Hennepin and later to Excelsior Boulevard in St. Louis Park Verna finished her career in her shop in the Calhoun Towers. Verna worked over fifty years as a beautician. She enjoyed visiting with her very loyal customers and occasionally served as their confidante. Several; of her customers became close friends of Verna?s. In 1968 Verna was united in marriage to Terry Williams. Following her retirement Verna moved to California for two years to be close to her great grandchildren and family. Verna was devoted to all of her grandchildren. In 2010 she returned to Alexandria and became a resident of Bethel Manor. Verna liked to go shopping; her clothes were very important to her. Spending time playing golf was something she just loved to do. Verna was a great visitor and enjoyed visiting with friends, family or clients. She was a good listener too; she remembered everything. On Saturday, July 19, 2014 Verna died at the age of eighty-three years. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Harland, Donald, Loren, Wayne and Jerry Kluver. Verna is survived by her daughter, Kathie Metcalf and husband, Allen, of Poway, CA; grandchildren, Tracy Miller and husband, David, of Waconia, MN and Kelly Crawley and husband, Jay, of San Diego, CA; great grandchildren, Alexandra Ericksen, Cassandra Miller, Michael Miller, Peyton Crawley and Sydni Crawley; brother, Doug Kluver and wife, Jackie, of Omaha, NE; sisters, Delores VanVickle of Minneapolis, MN, Margie Dalby of La Habra, CA and Sharlene Swisher of Albuquerque, NM; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Friday, August 1, 2014 at Anderson Funeral Home. Reverend Geoff Gronewald will officiate. Kim Byrne will provide music. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park in Minneapolis. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Arrangements are with Anderson Funeral Home.
