Viola Jeanette (Lindstrom) Larson was born on July 17, 1918, in Carlos Township, Douglas County, MN to Richard and Eleanor (Henzel) Lindstrom. She attended District #77 rural school and then graduated from Alexandria High School. Viola moved to Minneapolis, MN with her sister, Gladys, where they both attended business college for two years. She worked as a bookkeeper for the feed store in Alexandria after college. On January 27, 1943 Viola was united in marriage to Gustav Larson in Kansas City, Missouri. The couple made their home in Kentucky and Missouri while Gus was enlisted in the Army Air Corp. They returned to Minnesota, after Gus was honorably discharged, where they lived in the Minneapolis area for twenty-nine years. In 1976 they moved to Carlos to live on East Lake Carlos.
Viola enjoyed painting, drawing, reading, playing the piano, and was an avid golfer until she was 85. She also made many wonderful memories traveling to over seventy-two countries with Gus.
Viola died on Monday, July 6, 2020, at Grand Arbor at the age of 101. She is survived by her daughter, JoAnn Mabey; grandchildren, Dustin and Darrell Waters; great-grandchildren, DeAnthony Sr., Alexander, Sebastian, Ethan, Lily, Jonathon, Daniel, and Joshua; great-great-grandchild, DeAnthony Jr. Viola is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and siblings, Gladys Ost-Hedeen, Harold Lindstrom, and Fred Linstrom.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2020, at 2:00 pm at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria with a visitation one hour prior. Internment will be at Fahlun Lutheran Cemetery in rural Nelson, MN.
