OBITUARY
Violet Lucille Angen was born on April 2, 1926 to Carl and Nan (Swenson) Peterson in Evansville, MN where she was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
After attending school, she traveled to Kent, WA where she lived for two years while working for the Boeing Company which was building B17s and B29s, airplanes that were used in WWII. She returned to Alexandria, MN in 1946 and for the next four years worked in sales for Herberger's and J.C. Penney.
She met the love of life, Harland Angen at Calvary Lutheran Church where they were married on August 15, 1948. Vi and Harland were blessed with three children, a daughter Susan and sons Carl and Scott. A second daughter, Helen Taylor, joined the family for a year, as an exchange student from Australia.
Throughout her life, Vi enjoyed participation in many of Calvary's volunteer activities. She was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the choir. She was the assistant leader of Susan's Brownie troop and Scott's Cub Scout troop. For two years, Vi helped raise funds in Carlos Township so that children of the township could attend Camp Courage for Kids in Minneapolis and for more than forty years she was in charge of the lady's group that prepared lefse for the church's annual Lutefisk Supper; Vi was known in Alexandria as the "Lefse Queen".
Vi loved children and the Angen home was always the hangout for the neighborhood kids and over the years, for many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She really enjoyed cooking and baking and she will be remembered for always having something yummy to eat whenever anyone visited.
One of Vi's favorite times of the year was summer when grandchildren, nieces and nephews took turns visiting the hobby farm where she and Harland lived for twenty-nine years.
Vi's other hobbies included decorating her home for the changing seasons and entertaining family and friends, always setting a gorgeous table. She enjoyed horseback riding, sewing, quilting, writing poetry, and most of all dancing with her boyfriend Harland.
On February 23, 2017, Violet passed away peacefully at Bethany Home in Alexandria. Her faith never wavered as she looked forward to being reunited with Harland and other precious family members and friends.
Violet is survived by her sisters, Gloria Anderson of Alexandria, Carol Martin of Bismarck, ND, and Barbara (Pat) Perry of Belgium, WI; her sons, Carl (Betty) Nyberg of Fridley and Scott Angen of Alexandria; her daughter Susan (Jon) Hanson of Canby; her daughter-in-law Anita Angen of Alexandria; her grandchildren, Jaime Hanson, Megan Hanson, Julie (Paul) Dymit, Amy (Paul) Nentwig, Adam Angen, Miranda Angen, and Ariel Wheeler; 15 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; her sisters-in-law Lucille (Hal) Romig of Redding, CA, Vivian Godfrey of Alexandria, Norma Schlein of Ventura, CA, Doris Johnson of Dunedin, FL, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Violet was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved Harland, sisters, Arlene Williams, and Lorayne Lindquist, infant sister Beatrice Peterson, and her grandson, Jacob Hanson.
Vi will be sorely missed by all those who knew and loved her. Her smile lit up the room and her laugh was infectious. Her funny stories about her life and travels with Harland and her always "glass-half-full" attitude made her a favorite of the staff and residents of Bethany Manor and Nelson Gables. She will never be forgotten.
Vi and Harland have now danced through the gates of heaven together with Jesus.
A funeral service was held on Monday, February 27, 2017 at Calvary Lutheran Church. Interment was in the Geneva Cemetery. Casket Bearers were Ariel Wheeler, Adam Angen, Megan Hanson, Jaime Hanson, Julie Dymit, Amy Nentwig, and Miranda Angen.
