Violet Eddy

Violet Irene Johnson was born January 11, 1926 in Ludden, ND, the daughter of John and Lilija

(Virtanen) Johnson. Her family moved to the Kensington, MN area, where she grew up and

graduated from Kensington High School.

On May 8, 1945, Violet was united in marriage to Lyle Eddy at the First English Church in

Alexandria. The couple made their home on a farm near Lake Burgen and later bought a farm

west of Garfield. Violet was blessed with six children. She worked at Fingerhut as an inspector

for twenty-five years before retiring.

After retiring, Violet and Lyle spent many winters in Arizona and traveled to several states

throughout the country. Violet also traveled with her family to Italy and Germany. Violet

enjoyed spending time crocheting, doing puzzles, crossword puzzles, and playing cards. She

enjoyed fishing when she had time and most of all she enjoyed time spent with her children and

grandchildren.

Violet was active at St. Luke’s Church in Garfield. She served on the Ladies Aid and as a leader

for the LaGrand 4-H club. Spending time with her friends at Bethel Manor and with the retired

Fingerhut employees was important to her.

On Thursday, April 26, 2018 Violet died at the age of ninety-two years. She was preceded in

death by her husband, Lyle Eddy; son, Kevin Eddy; grandson, Chad Eddy; great grandchildren,

Nora and Agatha Eddy; brothers, Harold, Herbert and Johnny Johnson; and sisters, Hazel West,

Helen Lamatta, Lillian Johnson and Hilda Alexander.

Violet is survived by her children, Joanne (Fritz) Loeffer of Garfield, MN, Gary (Mary) Eddy of

Alexandria, MN, Cheryl (John) Peterson of Brandon, MN, Lonnie (Cari) Eddy of Garfield, MN,

Tamera (Robert) Kraft of Pine City, MN, and daughter in law, Janell Eddy of Garfield, MN;

eighteen grandchildren; thirty-five great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 11 AM, Monday, April 30, 2018 at St. Luke’s Church in Garfield,

MN. Interment will follow in the St. Luke’s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 PM Sunday

at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria and from 10 to 11 AM Monday at the St. Luke’s

Church.
