Violet Watt

Violet Mae Stahl was born June 27, 1922 in Spooner, WI, to Walter and Hilda (Roneson) Stahl. She began school in Eau Claire, WI and later, moved with her parents, to Chetek, WI. She finished sixth grade at Chetek. Violet moved to Cumberland, WI where she lived with her grandmother. Violet moved to Park Rapids, MN for her tenth year of high school. She graduated high school at Park Rapids where she met and fell in love with Curtis Watt. On August 8, 1940 Violet and Curtis were united in marriage. The couple made their home in Parkers Prairie, MN and were blessed with two children, Jim and Ginger. Violet loved to bake and cook. For a short time she worked as a cook at the senior center in Parkers Prairie. Making krena lefse was a specialty of her learned from her grandmother who emigrated from Norway in the late 1800?s. Correspondence with friends and family was important to Violet and she always set time aside to write letters. She served as president of her Study Club and enjoyed reading books. She also served in the American Legion Auxiliary. Violet enjoyed cards was an excellent bridge player. Violet was a woman of strong faith. She served as a Sunday school teacher for many years, fourth grade was her favorite, and she was Assistant Superintendent for Sunday School. Through her life, her prayers and her love she sowed many seeds of faith in others; a true witness for Jesus. Most important to Violet was her family. For the last ten years much of her family included residents and caregivers of Knute Nelson. Her children and grandchildren were very dear to her. On Tuesday, July 15, 2014 Violet died at the age of ninety-two years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Watt; son, James Watt; son=in-law, Reginald Mellor; grandson, Curtis Duane Watt; step brother, Bud Weatherbee; and step sister, Helen Scott. Violet is survived by her daughter, Ginger Mellor of Georgetown, TX; daughter-in-law, Marcy Watt and husband, Roy Snyder of Alexandria; grandchildren, Tracy Mellor, Rebecca Anderson and husband, Ken, Scott Watt and wife, Sandy, Peter Watt and wife, Amanda, and Christopher Watt and wife, Kelli; and great grandchildren, Ashley Anderson, Devon Anderson, Kylie Watt, Brandon Watt, Michael Watt, Kelly Heieie, Emma Poeping and Natalie Watt. A funeral service was held Friday, July 18, 2014 at Knute Nelson Chapel. Reverend Rollen Halvorson was the officiant. Interment followed in Parkers Prairie Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers included all of Violet?s great grandchildren. Memorials are preferred to the Calvary Lutheran Church Education Fund or Knute Nelson Foundation. Arrangements were with Anderson Funeral Home.
