Virgene "Gene" Frazier age 89 of Alexandria, passed away on Wednesday, March8, 2017. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria with a visitation taking place one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home, Alexandria, MN.
Virgene "Gene" Tyler Frazier was born on June 10, 1927 in Chicago, IL. She spent her early childhood years in North Dakota, until moving with her mother Helen to Minnesota. Gene attended school at District #83 and graduated from Alexandria High School in 1944. She worked at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital and Peterson Drug Store until moving to Baytown, TX in 1947. There, she worked at Tri-City Pharmacy (where she met her future husband Bill P. Frazier) and also attended Lee College. She and Bill were married in August of 1952. She was employed as a medical secretary until joining Bill in El Paso where he was stationed at Fort Bliss. She was employed at Biggs Air Force Base at OSI, until moving back to the Houston area in 1959. She again worked as a medical secretary for 10 years, until they moved to Newport on Lake Houston.
She enjoyed bowling, golf, Garden Club, going to baseball and football games (especially the Texas Longhorns) and was active in church, primarily in Park Place Lutheran Church in Houston and St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Baytown. She taught Sunday school and was on various committees and WELCA.
Bill passed away in 1987. In 2000 Gene moved back to Alexandria where she was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and women's club in Alexandria.
Virgene Frazier died on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at the St. Cloud Hospital at the age of 89 years old. She is preceded in death by her husband Bill Frazier; parents, Helen and Edward Daniels; and a brother Ralph Daniels. She is survived by nephews, James Kell Frazier, William Sumpter Frazier and wife, Carolyn Frazier, Dr. Ric Smith and wife, Leigh Smith; niece Linda Gould and husband, Dr. Jim Gould; and several cousins.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria with the Reverend Ben Hilding officiating. Interment was in the Nelson Cemetery.
