Virginia Barten

Virginia Faye (Benton) Barten was born on September 17, 1943 in Jackson, Mississippi to J.D. and Fairy (Grace) Benton. She graduated from Pearl High School in Pearl, Mississippi the class of 1961. She moved to Houston, Texas and worked as a copy editor for a newspaper. Virginia gave birth to a daughter, Donna born January 7, 1962. She met Richard Barten in Houston, Texas and they were united in marriage on May 17, 1969. They moved to Minnesota in December of 1971. Darren was born on August 8, 1972. Virginia worked as a nursing assistant at Knute Nelson and then attended Fergus Falls Community College to obtain her practical nursing degree graduating in 1976. She continued working at Knute Nelson as a LPN and retired in 2006. Virginia loved her job as a nurse. She touched many lives and loved the residents and the time she got to spend with them.
Virginia liked to spend time at the lake at their home on Lake Miltona. Virginia was a socializer and enjoyed people. She loved the Minnesota Vikings, her dogs, and enjoyed traveling and taking special trips with her family. Virginia was resident of the Galeon in Osakis and passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at the age of 73.
Virginia is survived by her son, Darren Barten of Alexandria; best friend, Rita Winters of Alexandria; brothers, Winfred Benton of Laurel, Mississippi and Wayne (Alva) Benton of Houston, Texas. She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Barten; daughter, Donna Jo Love; son-in-law, Daniel Love; sister, Wendell Benton; brothers, William and Wilburn Benton.
A funeral service will be held 1 PM on Friday, March 17, 2017 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria officiated by Steve Fredrickson. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be held at Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria.
