Warren Maynard

March 4, 1921 — February 27, 2009

Warren George Maynard was born on March 4, 1921, the son of Julius and Elzora (Davis) Maynard in Sanish, North Dakota. Warren attended grade school and then moved to the Oregon mountain range and worked as a logger with his uncle for a short time. Warren moved to Minot, North Dakota and began working as a phone boy for the old 78 taxi in 1938. Warren soon became an unofficial cabby picking up customers when they needed a ride. His unofficial title ended abruptly when he was stopped by the police for driving without a license. After Warren?s employer paid his ticket and his license fee he became an official taxi cab driver. For almost 70 years Warren picked up thousands of customers who needed a ride home, to work, or to the store. He loved visiting with his customers and he could tell a lot of colorful stories throughout his years a cabby. Warren retired from drive cab at the age of 86 years. Warren was hard workingman, who enjoyed gardening and spending time at his lake home on Lake Sakakawea. At the lake, Warren took pleasure in landscaping his lot and in the early 60?s made a runabout boat for his family to enjoy. He was a colorful man with a quick wit and great sense of humor. He always liked to tease his grandchildren and spend time with them at the lake. He was a loving husband and loved to dance with his wife Alice. He was a member of the Elks Club, Moose Club, and the Eagles Club all in Minot, North Dakota. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him. Warren G. Maynard died on Friday, February 27, 2009 at Bethany Home in Alexandria at the age of 87 years.
