Warren Roger Thompson was born Feb 28, 1922 in rural Princeton, MN to Alma (Sederlund) and Elmer Thompson. Warren was the 10th child of twelve and worked hard to support the family farm outside of Princeton. As a young man, Warren moved to Rockford, IL to work at Brass Works. It was in Rockford, in 1941, that a long term partnership begin with Evelyn Olson of rural Farwell, MN, who also worked in Rockford as a young woman. Warren and Evelyn were united in Marriage on May 5, 1945 at Augustana Lutheran Church in downtown Minneapolis. Warren loved the Automobile and after their marriage established an Auto Repair business in Farwell, MN. During the next 15 yrs Warren gained a reputation as a skilled mechanic. In 1965 Warren, Evelyn, and family moved to Alexandria, MN where Warren worked as a Service Manager for International Harvester and Ford Motors. During this time Warren learned of an opportunity for a teaching job at the Alexandria Technical School. After completing his GED at 46 yrs old he was hired and began a new career as an Auto/Diesel Mechanical Instructor. Warren loved this Job!! He took joy in sharing his knowledge with many young men until he retired in 1985. Many area businesses would seek out his students after graduation. Warren loved to fish all his life and after retirement fished walleye in earnest and regularly caught his limit in many local and area lakes. He also restored a number of old tractors and a 1955 Chevy. Warren and Evelyn loved to be on the go and traveled to see friends and relatives regularly. They led a very Spiritual Life and were dedicated and active members of Calvary Lutheran for over 40 years. Warren died suddenly on Nov 1, 2009 at his home of 44 yrs. He was active and enjoyed life until the end. Warren is survived by his wife of 64 years, Evelyn, her sons Richard (Elizabeth) Thompson of Boston, Mass - Steven (Candace) Thompson of Bemidji, MN, and daughter Kathleen (David) Larson of New Brighton, MN; 6 Grand Children and 3 Great Grandchildren; Sara Thompson of Chicago, IL, Luke Thompson of Honolulu, HI, Joshua Thompson of Lake Tahoe, UT, Abigail (Scott) Dolbear of Orlando, FL and their children Joaquin, Ethan, and Aiyana, Aaron Larson of New Brighton, MN and Diana Larson of Phoenix, AZ. Warren is also survived by his brother Donald Thompson of Princeton, and Dorothy Olson of Princeton, MN. Funeral services were held on Friday, November 6, 2009 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria with the Reverend Mark Astrup officiating. Kim Byrne, Sandy Buckner and Abigail Dolbear provided music. Interment was in the Oscar Lake Cemetery near Farwell, MN. Casket Bearers were Sara Thompson, Luke Thompson, Joshua Thompson, Abigail Dolbear, Aaron Larson, and Diana Larson. Honorary Casket Bearers were Ethan, Joaquin, and Aiyana Dolbear.
