Wayne Haben was born May 6, 1944, at the hospital in Morris, Minnesota to Alvin and Lillie (Buntje) Haben. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Trinity Lutheran Fairfield in Holloway, Minnesota. He grew up farming with his parents and neighbors, leaving him with many treasured memories. Wayne was also active in Walther League and the Work and Win 4-H Club, where he enjoyed raising sheep for his projects.
After graduation, he attended the machinist program at Staples Technical College in Staples, Minnesota. He later went to work at Donnelly Plastics in Alexandria and at Withers Manufacturing in Osakis.
In 1984, when he retired, Wayne spent time fishing with his dad and friends, doing woodworking, keeping up the yard, playing cards, attending Saturday night races at Viking Speedway, and visiting with relatives and friends. Towards the end of his life, Wayne moved into Diamond Willow Assisted Living and continued to enjoy visits from family and friends, but also learned to appreciate many other activities -- like keeping even closer track of the farm markets, listening to KXRA Radio, watching the Sunday morning church service broadcasted by Zion Lutheran Church, doing puzzles, and paint by number paintings. Throughout this time, he remained a faithful member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Alexandria.
Wayne is survived by his siblings: Audrey Behrens, Myron (Pamela) Haben; nephews: Jay (Mona) Behrens, Lee (Kelly) Behrens, Brian (Kayla) Haben; he is also survived by many other beloved relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Lillie.
Wayne's family would like to express their gratitude to his friends and the staff at Diamond Willow and Bethany on the Lake.
