WAYNE KUHLMANN Wayne Adolph Kuhlmann was born January 7, 1920 in Lester Prairie, Minnesota to Adolph and Mabel Marie (Wadel) Kuhlmann. At the age of seven years they moved to Hamburg, Minnesota where he finished his schooling. Wayne was drafted into the Army and served from February 1942 to October 1945 in the South Pacific. His anti aircraft unit served in Guadalcanal, New Guinea, and southern Philippines, Luzon. After his discharge he worked at the Oak Grove Creamery in Norwood, Minnesota and Brown and Bigelow in St. Paul. He came back to Hamburg to work in the bank. Wayne moved to Glencoe in 1963 and worked at Lee?s Super Valu until his retirement at the age of 73. He was active in the Church of Peace in Norwood, Minnesota. He served on many boards, the new building committee, and taught little children in the Awana program when he was in his late 70?s. While in Glencoe he cared for his invalid mother. After her death he was an active member of the American Legion, VFW, Masons, Shriner?s, and the Carver and McLeod County Historical Society. In 2005 he moved to Alexandria to be closer to his brother. On August 7, 2012, Wayne died at the Knute Nelson at the age of 92 years. He was preceded in death by his parents. Wayne is survived by his brother Vernon (Judith) Kuhlmann of Alexandria; and his nieces and nephews: Marie (Chris) Hillemeier of Olivia, MN, George (Mary) Kuhlmann of Deerwood, MN, Eileen Kuhlmann of Rosemont, MN, and Steven (Jeannine) Kuhlmann of Highland Park, IL; and seven great nieces and nephews. Interment was in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. Casket Bearers were George Kuhlmann, Steven V. Kuhlmann, Philip Kuhlmann, David Kuhlmann, Steven M. Kuhlmann and Chris Hillemeier. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Knute Nelson and First Congregational U.C.C. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria www.andersonfuneral.net
