Wayne Zimmerman

Wayne Thomas Zimmerman was born on July 16, 1953 in Appleton, MN, the son of Delmar and Virginia (Schnitzler) Zimmerman. He attended school in Donnelly, MN, Danvers, MN and Crystal, MN. His family then moved to Morris, MN in 1964 where he completed his education, graduating from Morris High School in 1972. On June 20, 1975 Wayne was united in marriage to Kelly Bogenreif. The couple was blessed with three children, Nicole, Michael, and Randi. Early on Wayne worked briefly for Hancock Concrete, West Central Steel, and Michaelson?s. Then he began his career at Westmor Industries, where he worked for approximately thirty years. Four years ago Wayne started his own business, Wayne Zimmerman?s Tree Moving. On October 6, 1995 Wayne was united in marriage to Kathy Torstenson. In 1998 the couple moved from Morris to Brandon, MN where they built a home on Big Chippewa Lake. Wayne was a lifelong racing fan. Wayne loved watching races at the track or on television. On a Saturday night you could always find Wayne at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria. For four years he raced locally driving car number 53. Wayne also enjoyed spending time outdoors. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and golfing with his friends. He was a member of the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association and Minnesota Snowmobile Association. On Saturday, April 4, 2009 Wayne died at the age of fifty-five years. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Jerome Zimmerman. Wayne is survived by his wife, Kathy Zimmerman of Brandon; parents Delmar and Virginia Zimmerman of Willmar, MN; three children, Nicole Arensdorf and husband, Jeff, of Wichita, KS, Michael Zimmerman and friend, Erin Kram, of Alexandria, and Randi Losalu and husband, Filo, of Cheyenne, WY; one step-son, Keyes Burgess and wife, Kristi, of Long Prairie, MN, two step-grandchildren, Jonathan and Joshua Burgess; and three sisters, Patricia Fernholz and husband, Guy, of DeGraff, MN, Mary Huntstad and husband, Todd, of Willmar and Rose Serbus and husband, Brad, of Willmar. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1:30 PM Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at St. Mary?s Church in Alexandria. Rev. Fr. Steve Binsfeld will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Casket bearers include Michael Zimmerman, Ray Kill, Dennis Schroder, Dan Greeley, Jeff Flaaten, Tom Torstenson and Nick Wolff. Honorary casket bearers include Wayne?s golf team and all of Wayne?s nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at St. Mary?s Church from 4 to 8 PM Tuesday with a prayer service beginning at 7 :30 PM. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
