Wesley John Michel was born May 10, 1934, in St. Paul, MN, the son of Henry and Marie (Vollhaber) Michel. He graduated from Monroe High School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Wes was employed by West Publishing Company for thirty-five years. He spent over thirty years in retirement in a cherished place on Lake Carlos near Alexandria, MN.
Wes was proceeded in death by his parents, Henry and Marie Michel and his brother, Richard Michel.
Wes is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Elizabeth; his four children, Susan (Craig) Fischer, Stephen (Mary) Michel, Mary (Gary) Pundsack, and Tom Michel. Wes is also survived by eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Wes loved his wife and family very much. He took an interest in others, met people at their level and made friends very easily. He didn’t take himself too seriously and liked a good joke or some good-natured teasing.
Wes enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cribbage and brandy manhattans. Wes was a bargain-hunter, he liked finding a good deal. And, as much as Wes liked people, he loved dogs just as much.
Wes lived a long and fruitful life. He made the world around him better and he will be remembered and deeply missed.
On Sunday, November 1, 2020, Wes died at the age of eighty-six years. A private Memorial Mass will be held at the Church of St. Mary in Alexandria, MN. Reverend Father Steve Binsfeld will be the celebrant. Interment in a Veteran cemetery will be later. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home & Crematory.
