William L. Grove William L. "Bill" Grove died on Sunday, March 4, 2012, in Crystal River, Florida, at the age of 72 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley W. and Ruth J. Grove and is survived by his wife Sandy Grove of Alexandria, daughter Cathy and husband Bob Barker of Austin, Texas, brother Jim Grove of Austin, Texas, and nephew Dylan Grove of Austin, Texas. Bill was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on January 19, 1940, and moved to Alexandria at age 9. He graduated from Central High School in Alexandria in 1958, the last class to graduate prior to the opening of Jefferson Senior High School. He then attended Gustavus Adolphus College and graduated in 1963. On August 29, 1964, Bill was united in marriage to Sandra R. Johnson in Litchfield, Minnesota. Bill worked for Firestone in Minneapolis before taking basic training in the Air National Guard. Upon discharge of those duties he went to work for Standard Oil Company and was transferred to Alexandria as territory manager in 1965. Bill and Sandy?s daughter, Cathryn Ann arrived on October 1, 1969, and they brought her home on October 30, 1969. Bill retired from Amoco in 1994 and then received his real estate license and worked for Coldwell Banker Crown Realtors. Bill loved golfing, hunting, and fishing. He also enjoyed traveling to Texas to see Cathy and Bob and to Florida each winter to spend months with his friends. He also served on the Board of the Alexandria Golf Club and served as President for a term. Most of all, Bill loved spending time with family and friends and being able to call Alexandria home for the past 47 years. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2012, at 11:00 from the First Congregational United Church of Christ with Rev. Scott Keehn officiating. Music will be provided by Margaret Kalina and Kim Byrne. Inurnment will be in the Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria.
