William J. ?Bill? Weisel was born on November 11, 1926, in Land Township, Grant County, Minnesota, the son of John and Albina (Kroupa) Weisel. He attended rural schools and also attended the Morris Agricultural School. Bill was inducted into the United States Marine Corps during World War II but never saw active duty as the war ended prior to his service. He was Honorably Discharged and returned to this area where he began working as the 2nd generation of the Weisel Well Company. On October 1, 1949, Bill was united in marriage to Bev Bratton at the Oscar Lake Lutheran Church. The couple moved to Alexandria and then returned to the Oscar Lake area. Bill retired in 1976 when he passed the business to the 3rd generation of Weisels. The couple wintered in Arizona from 1986 until 2006. Bill loved to hunt and fish. He was an avid outdoorsman who taught his love of fishing and hunting to his children and grandchildren. Bill also enjoyed making maple syrup and did that for over 20 years. He enjoyed cutting firewood, gardening, and hobby farming, and reading. Bill died on Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at the St. Cloud Hospital at the age of 81 years. He is survived by his wife Bev Weisel of Alexandria, children Wendy Weisel of Sauk Rapids, Kevin (Pauline) Weisel of Alexandria, and Darin (Kellie)Weisel of Farwell. Also surviving are grandchildren Wm. Clay (Denise Webb) Weisel, Lindsay Weisel, Alyssa Anderson, Ashley Weisel, Jody Weisel, Owen Weisel, and Josh Weisel, a great-granddaughter Lily May Weisel and his sister, Evelyn (Al) Halvorson of Farwell. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 28, 2008, at the Oscar lake Lutheran Church in rural Farwell, Minnesota, with Rev Denise Croskey officiating. Organist was Sarah Rensink. Interment was in the church cemetery with Alan Olson, Jim Thompson, Chad Weisel, Mark Rathman, Jeff Halvorson, and Jeff Reed. serving as casket bearers. Millitary Honors were provided by American Legion Post #87. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
