Wilma Perry was born in Quarry, Iowa, On April 12, 1917 to Henry and Helen (Vokoum) Johnson. Wilma died October 15, 2014 at the Grand Arbor apartments surrounded by loved ones.
Wilma was raised in the Presbyterian faith, and she attended school and graduated from Marshalltown, Iowa High School. Following her graduation, she attended a cosmetology college, and worked as a beautician for two years.
She married Roger B. Perry on September 4, 1938. Following her marriage they lived in Marshalltown and Fort Dodge, Iowa. In 1948, they moved to St. Cloud, MN where they owned and operated a Maid-Rite shop where Wilma was instrumental in the success of that endeavor by managing and running this restaurant while Roger was getting started in the furniture business.
In 1956, Roger and Wilma moved to Alexandria and started Perry’s furniture. Wilma worked in the office and was responsible for all of the bookkeeping duties. After her and Roger’s retirement, the business continues to be family operated now into the third generation.
Wilma was also active in the Alexandria Golf Club women’s auxiliary during which time she scored a hole-in-one. This was a feat which pleased all the golfers in the family.
Wilma will be remembered primarily as a person whose family was of the utmost importance to her. She was also a beloved and faithful friend to many.
Wilma was preceded in death by her husband Roger in 2011, a son David in 1985, one brother and two sisters.
Wilma is survived by sons Michael (JoAnn) Perry of Alexandria, Pat (Barbara) Perry of Belgium, WI, and daughter Janice (Brad) Nierengarten of Clearwater, FL; grandchildren Mark Perry, Linda Perry (Brian) Nelson, Stephanie Perry (Chris) McConville, Pat (Annie) Perry, Brian (Kristi) Perry, Joe Perry, and Laura Perry. She is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
