Frances Miller

January 7, 1922 — June 20, 2017

Frances Lorraine Eastlund was born on January 7, 1922, to Alfred and Elsie (Granlund) Eastlund. She was baptized in the Fahlun Lutheran Church near Nelson, MN. She grew up in the Douglas County area, with two older brothers, Raymond and Melvin, and one younger brother, Floyd. Frances first attended country school, and then graduated from Alexandria High School.

After high school, Frances met Melvon “Babe” Miller and they were married on November 11, 1941. Melvon was stationed in Austin, TX during World War II and Frances joined him there. It was in Austin that their son Dennis Michael was born in September of 1944.

After the war, Melvon and Frances returned to Nelson to live. In 1949, their daughter Patricia Rae was born.
Frances was a busy homemaker and mother. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and caring for her family. She hosted many a sleep-over or extra supper guest.

In 1962 Melvon and Frances moved to their farm north of Nelson, where they settled into country living. Frances added quilting and helping with farm animals to her activities. Their grandchildren enjoyed many happy hours learning to pick corn and feed cows.

Frances was an active member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Nelson for all her adult life. She belonged to the Ladies Aid and helped with smorgasbords, mission projects, and church luncheons.

On Tuesday, June 20, 2017 Frances died at the age of ninety-five years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvon; and her three brothers and their wives, Ray and Nathalie Eastlund, Melvin and Violet Eastlund and Floyd and MarLynn Eastlund.

Frances is survived by her children, Dennis Miller and wife, Cathy, of Denver, CO and Patricia McCoy and husband, Steve, of Owasso, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Kelly Stamer and husband, Ron, Kacie Miller, Becky Braswell and husband, Travis, Sharon Davis and husband, Kevin, Marti Minney and husband, Scott and Michael McCoy and wife, April; and great grandchildren, Spencer and Madelyn, Shiloh, Gabriel, and Simone, Tatum and Meredith, Liam and Piper.

A funeral service will be held 1 PM Friday, July 7, 2017 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. Reverend Jeremy Pedersen will officiate. Interment will follow in the Fahlun Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 1 PM Friday at the church.
